CLM
Sustainable farming, clean water
and attractive rural areas

Since 1981 CLM (Centre for Agriculture and Environment) has promoted sustainable agriculture, healthy food, a vital rural economy and an attractive countryside.

Two organisations, each with a different approach, operate under the umbrella of CLM:

  • CLM Research and Advice, an independent consultancy which gives advice to governments, companies and NGOs.
  • Foundation Centre for Agriculture and Environment, an organisation aimed at innovation, debate, mediation and lobby.
Both organisations cooperate with farmers, citizens, companies and policy makers in order to bridge controversies between farming and society and to create practical solutions to pressing problems.

What makes CLM special?
The power of CLM lies in our broad scope, our feeling for facilitation and communication, our insight into policy and our practical approach. At CLM we have a very broad range of substantive expertise: from cows to cross compliance, from groundwater to greenhouses and from lapwings to landscapes.
Our expertise is rooted in professional practice, supported by our network of 250 farmers and other rural entrepreneurs. In addition, we have extensive experience and expertise in communication and facilitation. And, most importantly, people who work at CLM have a personal drive to make a change.

We practice sustainability
The CLM office building -next to the railway station- is constructed with sustainable materials, has solar cells on the roof and is equipped with ground source cooling.

New book of CLM: Farmland Birds across the World

Farmland is the most widespread habitat on the globe, supporting more than one-third of the world’s 10,000 bird species. This and many other interesting facts are included in a new book by the Dutch Centre for Agriculture and Environment (CLM): Farmland Birds across the World. It is the first book ever of its kind. Richly illustrated, the book shows the amazing diversity of farmland birds worldwide, including the many threats and opportunities for these birds.
